Havok: "and the mind of the japaness (who love porn films where they vomit on each other then lick it up... it's true) you would realize they are small people w/ huge minds...
and you wouldn't believe some of the 'mainstream' 'cartoons' their children are watching.... consider the fact that they watch cartoons where demons with exagerated 'sexual features' rape innocent women all in the name of religion... and that's just the tip of the iceburg... and that's their Saturday morning cartoon. "
---that is the most ignorant and uninformed characterization of Japanese society I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. I lived in Japan for a year, and never did I meet (out of the many many) any individuals who liked or watched that type of porn, nor was there ever such anime on television designed for children.
Westerners watch porn just as grotesque as Japanese (ie a woman f****** a german shepard), please...get out a little bit more and dont base your opinions on whatever slanted misinformation you are reading.
nice try, but your interpretation is pure bull s***, try again.
yeah....it seemed that way to me too, Havok. I think that's why I couldn't write about it, and that's also why I appreciated this review so much.
The bad thing is I didn't read the whole article before I wrote my comment. And I didn't really pay attention to the plot/details of the movie... more so the creativity and art, and influence. Some movies I don't follow the details (like in matrix).. I follow what stands out about that movie. Because I think that Kill Bill is more of a 'visual' movie.. and Matrix is concentrated on 'plot'... the visual effects and the fight scenes in the matrix.. act as fillers just to bring the element of excitement (for those who aren't concerned with details, for $$$).. but Kill Bill.. (I think) focuses on the visual aspect... the cartoon... the spraying of the blood.... the deliberate violence.. the 'p**** Wagon' (everyone thought it was her's)...
the plot is more simple 'revenge'...
Havok -- the real world is what we make it, not the worst of what anyone does. I'm no victim.
I agree with you that the essay was Great, though. I tried writing a short review and couldn't get anywhere -- this one really worked. He could abandon the word/idea "postmodern" without sacrificing anything, though. And while he seems to be talking about mothers/fathers generically at the end, it sounds as if he's talking about QT's relationship with -his particular parents-, which couldn't be supported simply from the film, but needs the support of biographical information.
The generic mother/father progression works for me, but specific application to QT doesn't.
I bet he's right about the ending of the story, though....but wasn't this one gonna be in three or five parts? I see one more film similar to the first that kills off Darryl Hannah and the guy, filling in more details along the way (and more complications), then a third film in which she ultimately confronts/kills Bill.
The whole thing with her living kid needs to be resolved too, which will undoubtedly be used as leverage against her. I suspect she'll learn that her kid's alive at the end of 2 and then have to work it out in 3.
The reason this film was made the way it was stems from something more then the mind of QT. It's stems from the mind of japanese culture in itself...and also includes the 'demented' portion of the mind. And if you can believe it or not... it was 'toned down' so Americans wouldn't be 'offended'... can you believe that... us Americans need the violence 'toned down'? Oh yeah... becaue if you know anything about true japanimation.. and the mind of the japaness (who love porn films where they vomit on each other then lick it up... it's true) you would realize they are small people w/ huge minds...
and you wouldn't believe some of the 'mainstream' 'cartoons' their children are watching.... consider the fact that they watch cartoons where demons with exagerated 'sexual features' rape innocent women all in the name of religion... and that's just the tip of the iceburg... and that's their Saturday morning cartoon.
Consider the movie 'fist of the North Star'... it's a japanimation... you'd love it... but it could never become comercially popular in the US..because of it's level of violence... (we really don't know what evil is)...
the point (there's never a 'point').... but I believe that QT is slowly but surely... helping us to crawl before we walk into the 'real world'....and what violence can really be....
which is just another form of de-sensetizing the world... which is like training for the possibilities of what can really happen in this place we call 'reality'....and that's what movies are all about....and that's why the get all the $$$$$$$$$$. A reward for a job well done in a 'real' world where there is external control... actually going on.... AND.. the USA is being attacked..and we LOVE it... and we'll surrender willingly.... and once the USA is transformed into a mindstate like that of the japanese... WHOA... Hitler Germany all over again.... and we think we're the good guys right... that's how it works folks.....
But KILL BILL is a wonderful movie...and it does a great deal for the concept of mind over matter... and the control..and overcoming one does in his/her everyday life!
Very interesting idea!!! I loved the movie, but only saw it as an amazing Tarantino film with great acting/action/dialogue. But the whole "p**** to c***" idea actually makes alot of sense.
