I'm Puerto Rican and grew up tangentially connected to the subculture of hispanic machismo -- meaning I saw it growing up in the people around me more than I ever participated in it myself. I saw this film as a critique of Latino machismo, the homosexuality at the end being its ultimate critique. On one level it's identifying all that brash testosterone induced womanizing, drinking, and even "the code" as a thin cover for male erotic unions -- both young men had banged each other's girlfriends, both got Luisa, and one even had the other one's mother, all as part of the two young men's union with each other. The women were just a means.
On another level, the film a sick joke played upon hispanic machismo...ha ha, you fags!

And on yet another level it's emasculating hispanic machismo by showing us all the women are really in charge of everything...another good belly laugh on the part of the director :).
