Reading the Donnie Darko article, it referenced 12 Monkeys as being one of those repeating loop time travel stories. The whole thing with the Bruce Willis character remembering the "airport" incident would seem to put it into one of those closed loops, but I thought the woman who sat next to the "virus carrying" character on the plane at the end of movie had also traveled back in time and was going to stop him, where Bruce had failed. Hense, the "I'm in insurance" reference. Of course, it's been a while since I saw the movie, and may be remembering it wrong.
