Interesting points. I agree that the alterations from the novel were a blatant example of a post 9/11 Hollywood walking on eggshells. At the end of the day, one wonders whether these alterations came about via a concern for the emotional stability of the nation, or maybe, just maybe, producers foresaw the box office damage that would be done should the film offend anyone.
