The only reason I see #3 as plausible is because in the movie Cobb states that your totem is the only way you can tell you are not in someone else’s dream, not whether or not you are in your own. Regardless of whether or not the top falls at the end could be irrelevant, although you’re right that it doesn’t make sense that Nolan would do all of that and still have it all be a dream.
