You and probably the film makers display ignorance about honeybees (which is understandable as most people do).  Drones, male bees, do no work at all.  They beg for food from the female workers, fertilize the queen, and are eventually shoved out of the hive in the fall, at least in Northern climes.  Entomologists believe drones serve some regulatory purpose in the hive too, but aren’t quite sure what.  But in the world of bees, and other social insects, if I’m not mistaken, the females do ALL the work.
