The Matrix, American Beauty, and Fight Club as Retellings of Pink Floyd’s The Wall
A Sneak Preview from You Do Not Talk About Fight Club: I Am Jack’s Completely Unauthorized Essay Collection
Have to agree with you, Luke. This is interesting!

PS: Taoism, buddhism and hinduism can be relationated with this movies. This is also a good stuff to think.
Interesting and fun comparisons but…..
Meatloaf was not new to film…
he played the monster in Rocky Horror. Remember?
oops. I meant EDDIE in Rocky Horror.
Meat Loaf has also appeared in over 50 movies or television shows sometimes as himself, or as characters resembling his stage persona. His most notable roles include Eddie and Dr. Scott in the American premiere of The Rocky Horror Show, Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Robert “Bob” Paulson in Fight Club, Tiny the bouncer in Wayne’s World, Dennis the Spice Bus Driver in Spice World, and Jack Black’s father in Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (a character who, ironically, hates rock music and believes it to be evil). Meat Loaf starred as police detective Jack Morris in The Hallmark Channel original film Citizen Jane.
I think another film to add to this collection would be Cronenburg’s Videodrome. In this we have the theme of overmediation in the television program ‘videodrome’ which is hyper-sexualized, yet has the effect of numbing the watcher’s drives. Eventually the main character must be reborn by shooting himself in the head, after violently opposing the institution of television. There is a ‘movie within a movie’ as well, “The Network”, I believe. There are some rather bizarre “head trip” moments as well, where the main character climbs into the mouth of a woman shown on the television screen, again dealing with the theme of immersion in a virtual ‘ecstatic’, infantile space. I really like your article, great job!
just thought you should know it’s not andrew wachowski, but laurence who “has been reported to be a cross-dressing sadomasochist, photographed with a dominatrix at his side, also corroborates this idea.” in your words. she’s just transgendered, and is not laurence anymore but lana. other than that i really liked your article and it is very thought provoking
I believe the line is, “Um, I’ve got some tiki torches in the *garage*”
