Ed Gein-ophobia

Someone please write a piece called “Gein-ophobia” on the influence of Ed Gein on Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Silence of the Lambs, which will also finally answer the question of why all of America’s cannibals seem to hail from Wisconsin (where they seem to keep the milk and the meat separate, as in old Jewish law). There is apparently an independent film called Ed Gein shot a few years back.

I was thinking of writing this, but I began to run into problems. Other than Gein and Dahmer there really aren’t any cannibals from Wisconsin. The other problem is that the case seemed to be popular during the time it occured, but it has died in the last 45 years. Dahmer, Gacy, and others are much more recent, which is why they are probably more popular. Even though it appears that the movie-going public has a general interest, yet overwhelming disgust, with cannibals and the like. A more psychological approach could be taken, which would probably make more sense.
Another thing to think about:
“Gein-ocology” (the study of Ed Gein), with the tag line: “Its messy, but someone’s got to do it”

There’s a joke that dates from the 50’s that goes, “Ed Gein Beer: all body and no head”.  This proves that Wisconsin is reknowned for more than just demented cannibals.

Oddly enough, Ed never served prison time for his crimes.

I’ve often heard that the second runner up for Wisconsin’s state license plate tagline competition was this charmer:  “Come smell our dairy air.”

Heh.

I’ve decided to give this one a go, so expect it sooner than later. Though this will be my first attempt at submission, so don’t get your collective hopes up…
