Irresistible Revisionist Historiography

Did you see the subtle-as-a-two-by-four moment in Cold Mountain where Rene Zellweger’s character Ruby Thewes walks through a field of dead tobacco stalks and says something to the effect of, “It’s okay to let this field go.” Whether you’re for or against tobacco (the leaf) or Big Tobacco (the industry), this anachronistic moment struck me as highly annoying because it jolted me back into the century from which I was hoping the film would relieve me for two hours. Anyone have a good name for this unique kind of philosophical anachronism? Or other examples of it?
